Ahoy,
I ate at the new Brighton restaurant last
night and was so impressed with the food
quality, friendly and informative staff and the
interior décor I had to let you know about it.
Last night I had walleye and was great, can’t
wait to try every other fish you offer. I was
very pleased to hear there is an option to have
the fish grilled and I look forward to giving it
a try. Keep up the great job! May God bless you

Everyone has to try this place. Rick & I
were so happy that you now have a location in
Brighton. We went there Sunday and it was great.
The owners are very friendly and the food was
wonderful. This location will be very busy soon
so get out there and give it a try. You'll see
why it's the talk of the town.

We read about your new restaurant in
Brighton, and went there for lunch today
Wednesday, the first day, and the whitefish was
the best I have had for years. I never heard of
Scalawags until now. We used to stop for fish at
Mackinaw City at Kenvilles for years, and since
they closed years ago, we did not know that
their was another great restaurant like the old
Kenvilles so close I predict that the customers
will be lined up at your Brighton location once
the word gets out how great your fish tastes.

When I visit Cheboygan to see my fiancé's
family, we ALWAYS stop in for a sandwich. This
is by far the best whitefish we have ever had.
Our kids love it as well because they can have a
hotdog meal while we munch on delicious
whitefish. Yum, yum... keep up the great work.

My Husband & I just happened upon your place
while walking. We had no idea there was a
restaurant in that little cove. We had the best
fish dinner we've ever had. Every year we make a
trip up to Mackinaw just to go to your
establishment. Now you have one in Okemos, I was
so excited, we are from Howell and now we can go
to your restaurants once a week, instead of once
a year. Keep up the great taste.

Dear Scalawags,
My wife and I recently visited Mackinaw City
and decided to try your restaurant. My wife
loves fish but I am not much of a fish-eater.
Needless to say, my wife loved the whitefish and
much to my surprise so did I. From Mackinaw
City, we then went to Petoskey to watch our son
participate in the Petoskey Youth Soccer
Tournament and while there we again ate at
Scalawags. We also noticed that Scalawags was
one of the sponsors of the tournament. So not
only does Scalawags have delicious food but they
are also community minded.

An answer to prayer. I've died and gone to heaven!!!!!!!!!!
A Scalawags in Grand Rapids! Scalawags has always been my
favorite fish restaurant. We went to Mackinaw City on many
occasions just to eat at your restaurant. I been coming
since you opened, when it was all you could eat. I almost
single handedly ate you out of business! You wouldn't
believe how many people I've told about your restaurant. Now
if I can just get you to come to Holland Township and
Ludington, I'll be really happy. Then I could enjoy fish at
the cottage or home. Best wishes for continued success.

My family and I make a trip every year to
Mackinaw to just to dine at Scalawags. It has
been a tradition of ours since we were married
in 1993. My husband knows I must get my fix of
whitefish any time we visit up north.
We
are from Charlotte, 20 miles south of Lansing. I
overheard a couple mention you had a store in
Okemos now and logged on as soon as we got home
from our trip to see. I am so thrilled there is
one close to home!
Thanks for such a wonderful restaurant with the
best fish around!

Fishmeister,
Just wanted to send a quick note, I was recently
staying in Mackinac City at the end of June for
4 days while Up North for a wedding. We have a
cottage on Douglas Lake (it was full so we
stayed in the city) about 15 minutes south of
the bridge and have been going to Scalawags
since it first opened.
My family ate
there a few times and my girlfriend and I
enjoyed your fish 4 days in a row for lunch. The
staff was great and had no trouble recognizing
us by about day 3. All these years, the fish and
chips were so good I never tried the walleye
until this year...I've been missing out! Next
year, the perch!
You're enough to make myself and my better half
move back to Michigan so we can enjoy your food
on a regular basis.

Dear Brian,
We discovered you the first year you opened.
We were camping at Wilderness State Park and the
weather was awful so we drove into town looking
for a hot meal in a warm place. The fish
was WONDERFUL, and we ended up eating there 2
more nights during our vacation. This
year, we are adding a day to our vacation just
so we can have whitefish dinners at Scalawags
before heading home. Your whitefish is the
BEST fish anywhere and makes our mouths water
just to think of eating it again. We're
from Grand Rapids, and try to make a point of
one trip a year to dine with you in Mackinaw
City. Now with your restaurant in
Petoskey, we'll have another excuse to go north!

Hello to all the Scalawag family,
My husband, daughter and I are headed up to Mackinaw
City in mid-August.
We will be staying for 3 days and I guarantee we will be eating every dinner
at your fine restaurant. You've heard it before but I will say it again "your
fish and chicken tenders are delicious!!!!!". The 3 of us share a 3 piece
fish basket and a tender basket and every morsel goes...:) The hush puppies, cole
slaw and tarter sauce also make it a great meal. We have
been going to Mackinaw City for years and have tried most
restaurants there, and now we say why fool around, let's just go
to the BEST, we are never disappointed. Keep up the
great work, and thank-you for such great dinners at affordable
prices....and for the service with a smile....:)

Grass Lake Mi. I mentioned to you when we were there over
Memorial Day that I was so pleased that some things never
change. The food is always great. The boss is always smiling

I and my wife Terry are happy that you are now
open for the season as we will be headed up to Mackinaw this
weekend and always look forward to your delicious whitefish!
I am a full time Firefighter/EMT from the
City of Jackson Michigan Fire Department and have sent a number of
people up there to try your fish, so far they have all been very
happy with it.
I sure wish you could open a store down this
way so that I would not need to drive as far, but then I might put
on way to many pounds!
Anyway, good luck with your new store in
Petoskey, I'm sure it will do very well in that area.

Funny, I was looking for a condo
that we stayed at last year on the Island, and ran across your web
site. So here goes. My Brother turned us on to your food 3 years
ago. It is really good. I can honestly say that we have ate in
some of the finest restaurants, but your whitefish, and chicken
tenders are GREAT! Keep up the great work. We sell your
restaurant everytime the conversation leads to Northern MI. P.S.
my Brother lives in Northern MI and they travel just to get the
fish from Lewiston!!!

made the trip to Mackinac City almost weekly so that we can enjoy
your wonderful fish dinners during your open season. We are
anxiously waiting for your opening day this spring so we can once

Dear Brian and all,
My wife and I just returned home
from an overnight at Mackinaw. The only reason we wanted to go up
for such a short time was for a stop at Scalawags. We got there in
time to have a late "3 piece" to split for supper. And then this
noon we each had a "3 piece" and then on our way home. We have
hooked our kids on your place as well.
Last year I lived near Charlevoix
so we got to Scalawags at least 3 or 4 times a summer. Now we have
moved south near Greenville, MI so we cannot have our favorite meal
so often. All summer I have been wishing and my son knew that so
after they were in your restaurant and after they had ordered they
called us on the cell phone to rub it in that they were awaiting the
arrival of their meal. Mean kids!!
I have tried all around, but no one
even comes close to the way that you do fish and tarter sauce.
Thanks for the special great meals
today and yesterday.
